A few years ago, the Arkport Central School District began purchasing all necessary supplies for students. The district made this decision for two main reasons. First, by buying in bulk and through State contracts the district can purchase supplies at a much lower cost, saving on average 50% on retail costs. Second, by purchasing each student in a grade level the same supplies, we take a step towards equity among students.
It is the goal of the district to remove as many barriers between a student's learning and their ability to purchase materials and supplies necessary to partake in the educational experience. Another example of how the district is building equity is by supplying musical instruments to all students interested in participating in band. By not relying on a family's ability to afford a rental instrument, we expand the number of students able to participate.
All students will receive their supplies on the first day of school. If you have any questions in the meantime, don't hesitate to contact your student's principal.
