head shot of both principals

For National Principal's Day, we interviewed our two amazing principals, Claire Smith and Eli Marcus. We asked them about what inspires them every day, how long they've been in the business and some fun facts. Read on to hear what they had to say!

Eli Marcus, 7-12 Principal

Q: How long have you been in education?

A: This is my twentieth school year.

Q: What is most rewarding about your role as 7-12 principal?

A: The most rewarding thing about being a principal is watching our students grow, not necessarily academically (although that is great too), but growing into good people.

Q: Favorite part of your day?

A: My favorite part of my day is the time spent interacting with students.

Q: Fun fact about you?

A: I built my own home on an abandoned tree farm in Arkport that I now manage for hunting and wildlife habitat.

Claire Smith, PK-6 Principal

Q: How long have you been in education?

A: 28 years

Q: What is most rewarding about your role as PK-6 principal?

A: The most rewarding part of my role as a PK–6 principal is being part of a school community where I get to support students, staff, and families every day. I truly value the relationships built and the opportunity to help create a positive, caring environment where students can grow and succeed.

Q: Favorite part of your day?

A: My favorite part of the day is greeting students and staff, whether it’s at the front door bus loop, or the PAC parent drop-off loop. I love seeing everyone arrive with smiles, and my hope is always to start the day on a positive note, so students and staff alike feel welcomed, wanted, and supported.

Q: Fun fact about you?

A: A fun fact about me is that I once took a fencing course with friends just to try something new, it was a really fun and memorable experience! And of course, my students know I love my chickens and ducks!
