Arkport has been awarded a $3,500 grant through the Whole Foods Market Foundation’s Garden Grant Program. This funding will support the design, installation, and upkeep of a thriving garden space on our campus. This allows our students to engage with hands-on learning, nutrition awareness, and environmental stewardship.
The Whole Kids Garden Grant program encourages schools to build edible gardens that foster an appreciation for healthy eating and outdoor education.
With the support of this grant, Arkport students and staff will:
Create a vibrant garden classroom where students can grow and harvest fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
Integrate the garden into the curriculum across science, health, and nutrition education.
Provide opportunities for student-led planting, harvesting, cooking, and tasting activities.
Strengthen connections with families and the wider community through garden events, harvest celebrations, and shared learning.
The Grow Towers were assembled on Oct. 24 by Mr. Kramer's Ag engineering class. The class started growing the plants on Oct. 30 and will add them to the Grow Tower next week. The Ag Engineering and Ag Studies classes will monitor the water PH balance on a weekly basis.
Our hope is to make the garden a sustainable, living resource for learning, health, and community connection for years to come.
