At its meeting on Wednesday, June 11, the Arkport Board of Education formally appointed Matt McGarrity as the Interim Superintendent of Schools. This ensures a smooth leadership transition as the district continues its work to support students, staff, and the community.

Over the past 34 years, McGarrity has held positions as alternative high school teacher, curriculum coordinator, principal, personnel director and superintendent in both small and large local school districts. McGarrity retired from the Orchard Park Central School District as Superintendent in 2021. Since then, he has been working with various BOCES in different capacities.

The interim appointment comes as the Board begins the process of identifying the district’s next permanent superintendent. The Board is committed to a thoughtful and transparent search process, and the appointment of an interim leader reflects a focus on maintaining strong educational continuity and steady guidance.

The Board is grateful to the school community for its continued support and engagement throughout this process.
