A host family must be secured by April 1 for the district to accept an international student for the 2024-2025 school year

In the 2024-2025 school year, the Arkport Central School District will welcome an international student as part of its effort to boost students’ global and intercultural awareness. The district is currently seeking a family to host an international student. Hosting an international student can be a tremendously rewarding experience for both the student and families.

How does the program work?

Members of the school community are asked to host an international student for one year. Participating families need to be able to provide a clean, safe environment for the student to adapt and thrive in their new surroundings and are supported by international and residential coordinators that support the student and their host family on a regular basis.

A background criminal check is required for all family members within the household to ensure that these new students will be safe during their stay in America. In addition to tuition, host families would receive reimbursement for the cost of housing.

How are students selected?

International students take part in a thorough application process that includes completing an application packet with thorough health and vaccination records as well as an in-depth online interview and multiple signed agreements. Participating students must be academically strong and vaccinated for COVID-19.

How are host families selected?

While any parent/guardian can apply to host, the district is looking for caregivers of all ages who have success in raising children, will treat students as their own and are interested in a lifelong experience, new friendships and the opportunity to explore a new culture. Host families provide housing and invite their international guests into their everyday life with mealtimes, outings and vacations. Individuals who are interviewed and found to be acceptable hosts will be matched with students with similar interests.
