The Arkport Central School District Board of Education appointed Eli Marcus as 7-12 Principal at their December 13 meeting. Mr. Marcus will join the district on Wednesday, Dec. 20, succeeding David Warren who has filled the position on an interim basis since August. Mr. Warren will remain with the district until the end of January to provide for a smooth transition.

A graduate of Arkport schools, Mr. Marcus comes to ACS from the Hornell City School District, where he served as Technology Director and as Assistant Principal for grades 7-8. Prior to holding these positions, Mr. Marcus taught science at the secondary level for thirteen years in the Whitesville and Wellsville school districts.

“I’m excited and honored to be given the opportunity to return to my home district,” said Mr. Marcus. “I’m looking forward to working with the students, faculty, staff and families of Arkport.”

While serving as a teacher and assistant principal, Mr. Marcus garnered extensive experience in curriculum development and implementation as well as in the area of inclusive education. During his tenure as Technology Director, he amassed a working knowledge of technology and its vital role in education.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Marcus to the district,” said Superintendent of Schools Jesse Harper. “He truly understands the vital role schools play in the community and how collaboration can benefit all stakeholders. I believe he is a great addition to our team.”

Mr. Marcus attended Alfred University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Education. He earned a master’s degree in Geosciences from Mississippi State University and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from SUNY Brockport.

Currently residing in Arkport with his wife, Lindsey, and their five children, Mr. Marcus enjoys spending time volunteering for local youth sports as well as mentoring first time hunters. His love of the outdoors also led him to become a certified coach with the New York State High School Clay Target League.
