Our Mission
It is the first priority of every member of the Arkport Central School District Transportation Department to provide safe, secure and reliable transportation services to the students of the district.
What We Do
The purpose of the transportation system is to provide safe, reliable transportation of school age children on a regular, consistent basis to and from school, instructional programs, field trips, sporting events and extracurricular events.
The Arkport bus fleet travels more than 100,000 miles across our region each year. Due to regularly scheduled maintenance and upgrades, our vehicles consistently pass the New York State Department of Transportation inspections at a rate that is among the highest in the state.
Our dedicated staff of drivers undergo hours of training each year so they are up-to-date on the latest safety precautions. Every Arkport school bus driver must have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and, after taking lessons from a certified instructor behind the wheel of a school bus, must pass a 30-hour safety course, resulting in a certificate from the State of New York Education Department.
Safety Measures
Drivers’ safety training is ongoing. Once a year, Arkport drivers have an on-the-road defensive driving and performance check, by an instructor. Drivers are also required to pass a written test and a physical performance test every two years, attend refresher courses twice a year and pass a physical examination before they start driving and every year thereafter.
In addition, drivers are trained in First Aid and CPR, to help prevent bullying, to perform emergency evacuations and to handle the many other concerns they may encounter during the day.
Student Behavior
The Arkport CSD Transportation Department strives to provide all students’ with a positive, safe experience. We do this by maintaining upbeat, welcoming attitudes and by partnering with parents. Since an Arkport school bus is an extension of the classroom, the same requirements for respectful behavior apply. Students are expected to be safe, considerate and responsible. You can learn more about student expectations here. We depend on parents to remind students of these expectations. For our part, we notify parents of our observations and, in turn, give our full attention to parental concerns when they are brought to our attention.

Transportation Eligibility
Riding an Arkport school bus is a privilege, not a right. Students may be denied this privilege when there is just cause, as determined by the school district. Should this be the case, according to New York State Education Law, Transportation 30:16, the responsibility for students being transported to school rests with parents. If a student loses the privilege of transportation, the expectation is they will continue to attend school.
Requesting a Bus Stop Location Change
If a change to a bus stop location is required, contact the Transportation Department as soon as possible to complete a new transportation form; please allow up to three days for change requests. We permit one change per semester. The Transportation Department can be reached by calling 607-295-7290, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
