Units of Study Requirements
By the end of Grade 8, a student must have completed the following units of study*:

*A unit of study (1) is defined as a class that meets every day for 40 minutes. Thus a 1/2 unit meets for 20 weeks and a 1/4 unit would meet for ten weeks. The New York State Board of Regents mandates these requirements.
Students receive one period per week of library instruction, usually in conjunction with class projects.
Junior High Promotional Requirements
In grade seven (7) a student will carry a total course load of seven and one-half (7.5) junior high units. A seventh grade student must earn 4.5 units at the end of seventh grade to progress to eighth grade. In grade eight (8) a student will carry a total course load of eight (8) junior high units. An eighth grade student must earn 5.5 units at the end of eighth grade to progress to ninth grade.
