ARKPORT CSD LOCAL K-6 ASSESSMENTS

Aimsweb assessments are used for instructional programming in Arkport classrooms. They tell us about how our students’ very basic math and reading skills are progressing. These are benchmarks for ALL students. Some students will be progress monitored more frequently because of their intensive needs.

New York State Assessments

  • Grades 3 - 8 NYS ELA and Math Assessments, and Grades 7-11 Regents Exams

These assessments tell us about how well our students are able to apply mathematical understandings and mathematical practices, (computation and application to real world problems) and how well they can integrate necessary fluency, comprehension, analytic, and communication skills (reading, thinking and writing).

**The 3-8 Math and ELA assessments are no longer timed; therefore the minutes per week for each assessment below are now approximate.

Third Grade = 420 minutes of testing spread over 2 weeks

ELA The Grade 3 Common Core English Language Arts Test will assess Reading, Writing, and Language Standards using multiple-choice, short-response, and extended-response questions. All questions will be based on close reading of informational and literary texts.

  • 3 books spread across 3 days= ~210 total minutes

Math The Grade 3 Common Core Mathematics Test is designed to measure student mathematical understanding as defined by the CCLS. As such, there will be a noticeable change in rigor and depth in mathematics. The 2013 Grade 3 Common Core Mathematics Test contains multiple-choice, short-response (2-point), and extended-response (3-point) questions. For multiple-choice questions, students select the correct response from four answer choices. For short- and extended-response questions, students write an answer to an open-ended question and may be required to show their work. In some cases, they may be required to explain, in words, how they arrived at their answers.

  • 3 books spread across 3 days= ~210 total minutes

Fourth Grade = 560 total minutes of testing spread over 3-4 weeks

ELA The Grade 4 Common Core English Language Arts Test will assess Reading, Writing, and Language Standards using multiple-choice, short-response, and extended-response questions. All questions will be based on close reading of informational, literary, or paired texts.

  • 4 books spread across 3 days=~210total minutes

  • 3 books spread across 3 days= ~230 total minutes

Science(ESPET)

The ESPET is designed to measure the K-4 science program in all NYS school districts. It is a two-part assessment; the first part is multiple choice and short answer and is untimed. (It usually takes the average student no more than 45 minutes.) The second part is a hands-on “lab” assessment where students complete 4 different hands-on labs. Each station is to be completed in 15 minutes.

2 testing experiences spread across 1-2 weeks= 120 total minutes allotted for completion

  • Fifth Grade = 540 total minutes of testing spread over 2 weeks

ELA The Grade 5 Common Core English Language Arts Test will assess Reading, Writing, and Language Standards using multiple-choice, short-response, and extended-response questions. All questions will be based on close reading of informational, literary, or paired texts.

  • 4 books spread across 3 days= ~270 total minutes
