White text on a blue background reads Reopening 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

With the Governor’s announcement last week that schools in New York are approved to open, the Arkport Central School District cleared another hurdle in our reopening plan. From the moment I heard that it was a possibility that we would be able to welcome back students this fall, I have been filled with a sense of joy. Schools need students, and all of us at Arkport have missed our students.

The district’s reopening planning began with a few simple guiding principles that have dictated every decision we have made in this process. Those guiding principles were and still are:

  • Reopening for in-person instruction must be safe.
  • High-need students would be prioritized for in-person learning.
  • Mask-wearing should be safely minimized while in school.
  • Students need to move throughout the day.
  • Special area classes would remain a part of students’ daily schedules.

The district’s reopening plan is over 20 pages long, making it impossible to review even a fraction of its content in this letter. Rather than try and cram details into this letter, the district has set up a reopening webpage that contains the district’s plan, a summary slideshow and a frequently asked questions section. A copy of our complete reopening plan can be found here.

In addition to the reopening plan material available on the web page, we have set up multiple opportunities for all of you to attend virtual or live meetings to find out more about Arkport’s reopening plan (schedule can be found below.)

The 2020-21 school year will be one unlike any before, but I have the utmost confidence that the Arkport community will not only rise to the occasion but thrive as ACS Bluejays always do.

Sincerely,
Jesse Harper
Superintendent of Schools
